FACEBOOK STOCK PLUNGE

The biggest stock price drop in history occurred in afterhours trading on July 25, 2018 when Facebook’s market value fell more than $100 billion –about 20% -- in the largest single-day drop in value in Wall Street history. This created a domino effect with hedge funds as investors suffered.

This drop came on the heels of reported earnings and several months of disclosures about privacy concerns and issues

Biggest stockholder is founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, born May 14, 1984, who lost a personal fortune of about $17.6 BILLION in net worth.

Net worth in the form of stocks is ruled by Neptune. It is therefore not surprising to see that Mark Zuckerberg’s natal Neptune is besieged by a square from Chiron.

In his natal chart Juno opposes Neptune and transiting Chiron is square both planets. This turbulent Chiron square natal Neptune creates a financial and reputation impasse while Chiron squaring natal Juno breaks up a dream. The net worth represented by stocks is only on paper until the stock is sold and profits taken, so the value ( Neptune) is not tangible (Juno).

Transiting Chiron created an exact T-Square to Zuckerberg's planets in May 2018 when the EU imposed a strict regulatory regime to monitor Facebook. Chiron will repeatedly make this same T-Square until January 2020.

Pick your timing. When starting something important, making key changes, or crucial decisions it is best to examine your own personal transits.

JUPITER TRINE NEPTUNE

Jupiter and Neptune complete their trine on the 19th of August. Between August 4 - 8 this trine is illuminated by the Sun while Juno, Pallas, and Ceres add tension to the planetary geometry. Our hearts and minds will search for far seeing inspiration, wisdom, lasting peace and serenity.More peaceful conditions exist between August 12 - 18.

Jupiter symbolizes wisdom and Neptune offers longevity. The message of the stars this month may be that human earth dwellers can be wise about taking care of the planet and extend the life of other planet’s residents as well as ourselves.

Jupiter also symbolizes abundance, and at its extreme, waste. Neptune also symbolizes plastic which is made from fossil fuel and does not break down in the environment. Once it is created it lasts a long time.

Perhaps we can use this special time in August to turn our attention to ways to help the planet by turning to more organic products and waste fewer precious resources.

The next time Jupiter trines Neptune will be in 2026.

BYE, BYE PLASTIC

“A single plastic bag can take up to 1,000 years to degrade.”

Once upon a time people were urged to use plastic bags to “save the trees” but now there are actual islands of plastic growing in the oceans. One is bigger than the state of Texas

This is such a concern to environmentalists that Australia and many other countries have banned them. California became the first state in the U.S. to ban single-use plastic bags in 2015, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Businesses that continue to offer the bags must charge customers a fee.

PAPER or PLASTIC

Bunheads was a short-lived ABC Family situation comedy series starring Sutton Foster, the gal from Younger and Kelly Bishop, known as the mother in Gilmore Girls.  The story line revolves around a dance studio and the dancers (thus, Bunheads).

One of the most memorable episodes included a dance school production that pitted Paper versus Plastic at the grocery store checkout line.

In the end, a reusable canvas tote arrived to break up the fight and defeat them both.

THE LAST STRAW

Plastic straws can last 200 years.

“Research shows there will be more plastic than fish by weight in the world's oceans by 2050.”

In April, the UK proposed a campaign against plastic waste, which could ban plastic straws, drink stirrers, and cotton swabs. On July 1, Seattle placed a ban on plastic drinking straws (unless medically necessary) and other disposable plastic items in public food service businesses. Starbucks, McDonalds and other businesses are phasing them out.

By the way, in August when the sun shines brightly medical professionals urge people to grab for sunscreen. Be aware that the ingredients oxybenzone and octinoxate can damage coral reefs. Find products that are safer for the world.

MicroBeads are another dangerous item that are found in big name personal cleansing products such as Aveeno and Neutrogena.  Body washes and exfoliating cleansers seem to be the biggest culprits.
